What's different about plumbing in Vilnius

Most of the city's flats sit in Soviet-era blocks where the vertical risers are shared by the whole column of flats. Anything on the riser itself is the building administrator's job, not yours — so if the leak is in the riser or the shut-off valve feeding it, call the administrator first and the plumber second. Everything past that valve, inside your flat, is the owner's responsibility.

The practical consequence for a quote: in older blocks a tap swap often turns into a valve replacement too, because the original shut-off no longer holds. Pre-war buildings in the Old Town and Užupis add a second wrinkle — non-standard pipe threads and fittings that a pro may need to source rather than carry. Photographs of the pipework, not just the tap, make the difference between an accurate quote and a surprise.
